Could Laser Therapy Be the Missing Piece in Your Pain Recovery?

If you’re still experiencing pain after a car crash, sports injury, or from a chronic condition, it’s time to see a doctor. Laser therapy could provide what your body needs to heal, alleviating your discomfort.

Lasers have transformed modern life, and that’s particularly true in the realm of medicine. From correcting vision with LASIK to busting kidney stones, these beams of light have unlocked new treatment options.

Here at South Texas Pain Institute, Shyam Purswani, MD, taps into that power with multiwave locked system (MLS) laser therapy. He can use this laser to reach through your skin into the area that needs healing support. That makes laser therapy effective for car accident injuries, sports injuries, and more.

If you’re not healing and your pain recovery has stalled, see Dr. Purswani to determine whether laser therapy could be right for you.

How MLS laser therapy works

Multiwave locked system lasers get their name from the way they work. The “multiwave” piece refers to the two different wavelengths of low-level light that the laser delivers. The name includes “locked” because the laser locks the timing of those wavelengths so they can work in tandem.

The laser goes through your skin into the soft tissues underneath. As your cells absorb it, it helps to stimulate your healing processes. That means it can be effective for:

  • Muscle pain and spasms
  • Back and neck pain
  • Inflammation
  • Joint pain

Studies have looked into the efficacy of MLS laser therapy. They’ve found that it can help to address lower back pain, shoulder pain, and pain from burns. Another study in rats even found that it can help with nerve regeneration

Notably, laser therapy takes a two-pronged approach. It can help to lighten your pain load while simultaneously supporting your healing. That can help you get both short-term and lasting relief.

What to expect during and after laser therapy

With Dr. Purswani, MLS laser therapy is a noninvasive, relatively quick treatment. We have you either sit or lie down, depending on what makes it easiest to access the area where you feel your pain.

To protect your eyes from the laser’s light, we have you wear specialized eyewear during treatment. Once you’re ready, we move the MLS laser over the treatment area. Some people feel a warming sensation, while others don’t feel anything at all.

Most treatments last around 15 minutes.

There’s no recovery period after treatment. Dr. Purswani may recommend activity modifications to support your healing, but you don’t have to do anything specific after your appointment.

Typically, people get the best support for their pain recovery with a series of MLS laser therapy sessions. Dr. Purswani can create a treatment plan for you based on your condition.

Whether you’re dealing with the fallout of a car accident, an injury, or a chronic condition, laser therapy may be able to help alleviate your pain. To explore this treatment option, request an appointment online or call South Texas Pain Institute at (210) 899-7246.
